2 Ways To Repurpose Leftover Fencing Material

Getting a wood or vinyl fence around your backyard is a great idea if you want a yard that is more secure, but you may end up ordering too much fencing material. If you have leftover fencing after the job is complete, and if you are good at do-it-yourself projects, here are two ideas of ways you could use the leftover pieces to create useful items for your home.

Shutters for your home

Leftover cedar or vinyl fencing is a material that is great for a variety of indoor and outdoor projects. One idea you could consider is creating shutters with the fence leftovers. Most types of fencing materials are constructed with panels that are approximately three to four inches wide.

To make shutters, measure your windows and cut the fencing into pieces that are as tall as the windows. For the width, you could cut the pieces into sections that contain two or three panels, depending on how wide you would like them.

The final step is to paint or stain the shutters and hang them. If the fencing material is already stained or painted, you would not have to complete this step unless you wanted the shutters a different color.

Headboard for your bed

If your bed lacks a headboard, making one out of your leftover fencing is a great idea if you are looking for an inexpensive way to get a nice headboard.

To create a headboard, you will need at least one section of fencing (depending on the size of your bed). Once you have the section you need, you can cut it to the correct size.

You could leave the fence as it is, which would create a rectangle-shaped headboard, but you could also use a jigsaw to create a rounded edge for the top of the headboard.

When you finish cutting it out, stain or paint it the color of your choice. Finally, you can nail the headboard to your wall and push your bed up against it. The benefit of this project is that you can make a headboard for a very affordable price. The downside is that you will always have to keep your bed in the same place in your room.

There are hundreds of different ways to repurpose leftover professional fencing, and this is a great way to prevent wasting it. If you would like more information about fencing materials, contact a company that sells fencing materials, like Sarasota Fence Inc.
